Richard A. Passwater. Ph.D., Report on Pycnogenol® as it relates to Attention Deficit Disorder - "The beneficial effects of Pycnogenol® on ADD only became known by chance. I received the first case report of ADD and Pycnogenol® in February 1995 from a mother who had been able to take her daughter off Ritalin® completely by giving her Pycnogenol®. The next information came from a colleague who knew several adults who belonged to a ADD support group and who were markedly improved taking Pycnogenol®. I asked my colleague to get good data from the ADD support group. With a questionnaire he contacted members of the group and conducted interviews. There was no financial impetus for making these statements and the interviews were conducted separately so that none influenced any other. In summary, the contacted ADD group participants reported dramatic improvements with the original Pycnogenol®, but not with grape seed extracts. The symptomatic improvements reported were: more alert, less depressed, less anxiety, no longer in need of antidepressant drugs, more energy, better interpersonal relationships, feeling at ease and simply feeling better. All these case reports point to a beneficial Pycnogenol® action which so far has never been anticipated, this was not investigated before, although this is now highly recommended."
